The purpose of this presentation is to show in a historical way how service done in a uniformed, elegant and efficient manner, speaks volumes of what it means to serve and be served.

Bringing documented history, of historical rituals, customs, ceremonies, etiquette that has purpose behind it, may hopefully inspire you, the reader to revive the classics or the formal arts of leather service.

I also wish to see through my eyes, as other "masters" of the leather community or "elders" of the community in good standing, how simple, quiet and purposeful service can slow down, relax and be enjoyable as well as appreciated, admired and sought after qualities of all those who envy such quality.

It is also a desire for this presentation to enlighten you, the reader as well as the attendance of this presentation as an invited guest speaker, has but a limited time to extend the broad nature of this topic.

By presenting in depth, there are the immediate results in "awareness" of the qualities and the lack thereof about you. With today’s ability to go into chat rooms, role-play as Masters, Mistresses and slaves, it is so easy to be enchanted by good typing and detail. However, these computer role players can never match the real life application of such knowledge immediately and on demand. Unfortunately, many of these individuals seek positions of great influence, power and prestige and "glory" but, have no real substance and their training and knowledge is flawed severely, it is crippling the leather lifestyle.

Since more has been published about what "Old Guard" really means. People have been "enlightened," much to the utter dismay of heterosexuals, who have tried to pass themselves off as credible "masters" of the leather arts.

Since then, I have seen some individuals on the chat rooms I have visited, start calling themselves "Old European School." Please be warned, that this is not always true. A few questions will expose them as incorrect, as the details of service are extensive and historical by nature, with the four elements, which are the basis of Old European School standards. [Please note, that just on silent service alone, is just a small measure of what knowledge and skills taught] I only know of one other who knows "Old European School." There are a few former students of mine, who were sent away when they showed flaws in their character and in their intents.

It has been my personal experience and observation, which the Gay Leather community, in general have struggled to maintain some of the old and beautiful standards of the days of the "Old Guard." The classical circa years of 1940-1950 vintage discipline, honor and etiquette. Having such clear standards did not foster confusion. Now, we have a lot of it across the board. It is my wish to see the good of those times return and appreciated by all.

I am grateful for this opportunity to proffer this written work in support of the oral presentation.

Respectfully,

Lady Hugs
